Teach Abroad in China Program

Program Overview

​

Are you a TESOL student or teacher interested in teaching in China? If so, look no further than Jade Chinese School’s Teach Abroad Program! While becoming an English teacher in China can be extremely time and energy consuming, our meticulously structured program streamlines the process, making it quick, straightforward, and efficient. Our program is comprised of two parts:

 

1. We teach students the fundamentals of Mandarin Chinese so they are qualified to teach English in China and live on their own.

2. We connect students directly with job opportunities in China, making use of our extensive network of Chinese educational employers.

 

Packages

​

Students who are interested in our Teach Abroad program can enroll in one of two packages:

 

1. Beginner Package

• Duration: 1 month

• Learn the basics of Mandarin Chinese, including the Chinese phonetic system (PINYIN)

  • Type at least 20 Chinese characters 

  • Write at least 10 Chinese characters

  • Speak at least 25 common words and questions for everyday use

  • Understand the Chinese phonetic system

  • Distinguish and write down the Chinese syllables when hearing Chinese words

• Get directly connected to three teaching job opportunities in China

 

1. Survival Kit Package

• Duration: 4 months

• Learn practical Mandarin Chinese to navigate daily life in China, including how to…

  • Navigate transportation

  • Social/business etiquette (including popular conversational phrases that you’ll actually use!)

  • Make store payments (did you know China rarely uses cash and credit cards?)

  • …and more!

• Get directly connected to five teaching job opportunities in China

 

Prerequisites

This program assumes that you have or are working towards your TESOL certification.

Job Matching Process

​

Students are eligible to be connected with employers after one month of lessons at our school. This gives the student time to attain the fundamental level of Mandarin Chinese proficiency required to teach in China. Additionally, it gives us time to get to know the student’s strengths and preferences so that we can recommend them to employers that are best suited for them.

 

For students enrolled in the Survival Kit Package, many opt to connect with employers after three or four months of lessons so that they are qualified for higher paying jobs.

 

While we cannot strictly guarantee job offers for our students (that ultimately depends on the interactions between the employer and the student), we can say with confidence that students who follow our guidance and put in their best effort are extremely likely to receive an offer.

Class Structure

​

We keep our class structure consistent so you always know what to expect. First, we review content from the previous lesson to reactivate the memory. Then, we go over the assigned homework, answering any questions and providing feedback. Next, we learn new content, which is mostly composed of student speaking. Finally, we take time to discuss the upcoming homework assignment.

Classes for this program are held online on Zoom.

 

School Methodology

​

As a school, we have a number of systems in place in order to ensure the highest quality instruction possible. First, the lesson materials created by our teachers are always validated by the school before instruction takes place. Second, we take special care to match each student with the teacher that is best fit for them, based on the student’s skill level and language goals. Third, we offer speaking workshops in addition to regularly scheduled classes which allow students to practice with each other in a more relaxed environment.
